Advancing Reliable Water Supply in Kyankwanzi District

Access to reliable and safe water remains a critical need in many parts of Uganda. In Kyankwanzi District, this need drove the development of a major water supply project aimed at serving growing communities and economic hubs.

Working with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), Enviromark Consult (U) Ltd was engaged to guide the project through its environmental and social safeguards. From the early planning stages, our role focused on understanding both the physical environment and the people who would be affected by the development.

Our team carried out extensive field studies along River Mayanja and surrounding areas—analyzing water resources, mapping environmental sensitivities, and engaging directly with local communities. These interactions helped shape practical solutions that balanced infrastructure development with environmental protection and community well-being.

As the project design progressed, Enviromark developed a comprehensive Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), identifying potential risks and outlining clear mitigation strategies. At the same time, a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) was prepared to ensure that affected individuals were treated fairly, with transparent compensation processes and support for livelihood restoration.

By integrating technical expertise with community engagement, Enviromark helped lay the foundation for a sustainable water supply system—one that not only delivers infrastructure, but also builds trust, protects the environment, and supports long-term development in Kyankwanzi.
